The Research Unit Sociology at the Institute of Spatial Planning (Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning) at TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (prae-doc), limited to expected 4 years, for 30 hours/week. Expected start: April 15th, 2024.

The Research Unit Sociology is the social science centre of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning at TU Wien. In teaching and research, we analyse the social and spatial structuring of societies and their change. Our work focuses on social inequality, urban development, democracy, participation and governance, as well as housing, mobility and socio-ecological transformation, taking into account technological change and digitalisation. The qualifications in our interdisciplinary team range from sociology to architecture, geography, political science, anthropology and economics, to urban and spatial planning.

Tasks:

  • The candidate is expected to contribute to research and teaching activities of the research unit as well as to participate in organizational and administrative tasks of the research unit and the faculty
  • Applicants are expected to complete a PhD project within the duration of the position (4 years)

Your profile:

  • Admission conditions: A completed Graduate, Diploma or Master Studies Degree in the fields of social sciences, spatial planning, geography, urban or regional studies, or equivalent studies
  • Required skills: Experience and a solid knowledge base in empirical social research with a relation to spatial issues; organisational skills and teamwork capacity; experience in teaching and/or a willingness to teach courses related to spatial planning and architecture.
  • We appreciate applications in English. While fluency in English is appreciated, fluency in German is a prerequisite, as most courses at TU Wien are taught in German

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,458.00/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
