Dear AESOP Community!
It is an honour and great pleasure to invite you to Lodz for the 35th AESOP Annual Congress 2023!
The main theme of the congress ‘Integrated Planning in the World of Turbulence’ reflects the current challenges for sustainable future. Space is becoming - on the one hand - an increasingly valuable resource, and its values and territorial dimension become an important factor of the development and growth processes - on the other hand, it requires more and more flexible adaptation of its development patterns to changing trends and forecasted challenges and problems.
This raises the question of the effectiveness and legitimacy of using the existing, more traditional planning approaches based on the methodology of long-term strategic planning aimed at building stable foundations for the development of society and - in contrast to this - searching for new approaches corresponding to the indicated planning challenges in conditions of high uncertainty of events, risks and anthropogenic and natural hazards.
As congress organizers we hope to create the space to discuss the importance and the role of planning and planners in this regard. We also strongly believe that the congress is thrilling opportunity to meet in person again!
The AESOP Annual Congress 2023 will take place on 11th – 15th July 2023 in Lodz, Poland.
The PhD Workshop will be hosted on 5th – 8th July 2023 in Poznań.

The Congress and the PhD Workshop are organized by the Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Geography of University of Lodz, Adam Mickiewicz University Poznań, the Town Planning Association and the Committee for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning, Polish Academy of Sciences.
After 30 years we are more than happy to host AESOP Community in Lodz again!
