The Journal of Regional and City Planning is soliciting finished papers and as well as abstract proposals to prepare papers for a forthcoming special issue dealing critically with the vast implications, consequences and responses to rapid urbanization taking place in megacity regions through Asia. Contributions dealing with various aspects of rapid urbanization processes underway throughout the world are desired, including but not limited to: the emerging peripheral urban clusters, the challenges of infrastructure provision to connect and service the vast expanses of rapid urbanization, the role of private development in promoting growth and the consequences of this for various urban stakeholders, how rapid urbanization is introducing new urban forms, how rapid urbanization is affecting the natural environment (loss of agricultural lands, increased pollution), the economic implications of rapid urbanization on the labor force, and what governance and planning institutional developments are underway to manage the urbanization processes across jurisdictional lines. These represent just some suggested topics but by no means limits the potential topics that are possible under the rapid urbanization theme. Case studies and broader thematic papers are welcomed.
Submissions and deadlines
Indications of interest to contribute papers can be in the form of an already prepared (but not previously published) paper addressing the theme, or an extended abstract for a proposed paper. The abstracts should be no more than 500 words and include some discussion of the methodology to be employed, key references and data sources, and evidence that it will contribute to the readers understanding of rapid urbanization. The abstracts should be submitted by no later than September 1, 2019 to Prof. Christopher Silver (email@example.com) and Dr. Delik Hudalah (firstname.lastname@example.org). All inquiries should also be directed to the editors’ emails.
The papers should follow the journal’s author guidelines (http://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/jpwk/about/submissions#authorGuidelines) and be submitted online through section “Special Issue: Rapid Urbanization” (http://journals.itb.ac.id/index.php/jpwk/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions) by no later than December 1, 2019. An assessment of the potential for the paper to be included in the Special Issue will be provided by January 30, 2020. It is hoped to begin reviewing completed papers by May 2020 with the expectation that the special issue will be released late in 2020 or early 2021.
