phd candidate Valbona Koci
Valbona Koçi is attending the PhD programme in Architecture and Urbanism - Dottorato in Architettura e Urbanistica- in G. d'Annunzio University, Pescara-Chieti, Italy. The research topic is “Water Sensitive Urbanism:
From Water[land]scapes to Waterfronts: the case Albania, a former socialist country”.
Valbona graduated from METU, Turkey, with an honor degree of Master of City Planning in Urban Design, – Program of URBAN DESIGN in the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture in the same University.
Since 2009 Valbona is lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Epoka University. Taking advantage of the master level education and 7 year working experience combined with the professional interest, her teaching activity includes involvement in key-courses in Architecture Education such as: [Advanced] Architectural Design and Landscape Design, both constructed on the model of design studios and workshops, as well as Landscape Research, Architecture and the City , as elective courses. In these courses, the students are asked to deal with the relationship between contextual, spatial, formal and programmatic aspects of the architecture. Her current research interest / fields are: Landscape (Water) Urbanism, Urban Design and Spatial Transformations, Ecology and Sustainable Planning.
The previous working experience consisted in working as an architect-urban designer for the Municipality of Tirana; as a collaborator of 51N4E architecture / urbanism [the Brussels’ based architecture practice], on several important projects including ‘Skenderbej Square Revitalization Project, (international competition winner), “Korca City Center Master-plan” (short-listed in the international competition), etc.
