Published at: 21 September 2011
This book is the result of a year-long intensive work, involving many researchers and collaborating institutions. It maps and analyses the cultural assets and institutions of Istanbul for the first time in a comprehensive way. What distinguishes this work is that it adopts the methodology of the Cultural Economy Compendium that is being promoted by the Council of Europe for member states to understand the dynamics of a growing cultural economy in a city context. Asu Aksoy and Zeynep Enlil take an incisive look into the cultural economy of Istanbul and draw attention to the importance of cultural policy in achieving better participation in, and an enriched and empowering cultural life for the city and its citizens.
